We are not discussing those all singing all dancing bed panels with all the bells and whistles such as an integrated radio, alarm clock, bookshelf and lights. We are discussing plain boards with no bells and no whistles. Your headboard can set the decorative style of a bedroom, and can also express your own style of creativity.
Metal headboards are a common choice for furnishing modern looking bedrooms. Mostly curvy shaped, they are usually made from metal rods such as wrought iron, brass metal, brushed aluminium or stainless steel. Depending on the type of material your headboard is made from, you can give your bed either an antique design if you go for iron or a sophisticated look if you choose a stainless steel version.
Remember, you want your bedroom to be a place of refuge and relaxation. When selecting a headboard, you will want to find one that generally matches the rest of the predominant furniture in the room, like any dressers, closet doors, bed frames, chairs, etc.
Headboards are most commonly designed with struts to fit the back of standard divan beds. But in some cases a wall mounted headboard, or a wallboard, is a more appropriate option. Wallboards feature many advantages including the decorative potential and the compatibility with any bed. Nevertheless they are not as functional as traditional headboards insofar as they don't secure your pillows and bed linens from falling off the bed.
