Mattresses are designed to accommodate one or two persons at a time without any space problems. Mattresses with restricted space don?t provide you comfortable sleep. The Better Sleep Council, a non-profit, mattress industry supporting organization in the USA, provides some guidelines to the shoppers regarding the size of mattresses.
Other than that, different levels of comfort are also given by different types of mattresses. There are several types of mattresses: innerspring, memory foam, latex, air bed and water bed. Since they are designed for different people, do yourself a favor and decide according to your own preference. Don't buy a mattress or a specific type of it only because your friend is using the same. What is comfortable for your friend may not be comfortable for you.
A busy or stressful life can also cause sleep issues and one of the most important factors in not getting to sleep is not being able to get comfortable on the mattress. A good quality mattress with the right construction can make this far less of a factor.
Finally, a very intelligent route is simply to be patient. Wait for the once-a-year mix and match sales that the large mattress vendors have. Mix and match sales are when they stores have a bunch of mattress and springs that don't match in color or fabric that they need to sell. Again, no one is going to see if it matches anyway, so who cares? These sales can often present deals of up to 50% off, and are not to be missed. If you're still discouraged, don't be. Just understand that you're not going to get a great deal on a mattress the easy way. Like I said, this is a big business, and these companies are not going to make it easy on you to buy their products at a discount. You may not find a cheap memory foam mattress, or the top of the line Tempur-Pedic you are eying, but you should be able to find a great mattress at a reasonable price if you put forth a little effort.
